Description
Started in 2000, Car Free Day is an international event that counts 1,500 participating cities in 40 countries, where commuters pledge to leave their car at home for the day, and ride a train, bus, bicycle, telework, or walk to work, and to do other errands. People can also go “car lite” by carsharing or carpooling. This event will encourage the community and regional decision makers to support car free living, policies and initiatives. This year it comes to Austin, TX.
General Information
Car Free Day ATX is organized by Austin resident Jessica Tunon. In late August, team member Gwen Jewiss was added. A number of organizations and people are joining forces to help educate people if they would like to make the car free pledge but don’t really know how.
