  Happy Hour Coordinator

Volunteer Coordinator

President
Muna Mitchell

The job: The President leads, manages, motivates and supports the Board of Directors and the ARC, represents the ARC to the general public, establishes annual goals and policies and procedures, and presides at all meetings.

The person: Muna officially started her distance running with a solid mile the day she watched the Houston Marathon. One year later in 2002, she finished it herself and has been hooked on running ever since. Her favorite events are the 5K and the marathon, but anything in between is pretty fun, too. With three marathons behind her, she is always looking to the next one. Moving back to Austin in 2002 really helped with her training since there are so many great places to run here. The Town Lake trail is easily her favorite, in the rain or shine or pre-dawn dark. She finally joined ARC out of appreciation for a great experience at Decker in 2004 and many subsequent happy hours.

During recovery from an injury early this year, Muna became as hooked on volunteering as she is on running. The next best thing to running a race is volunteering for one, and having the chance to help out other runners is its own reward.

VicePrez

Vice President
Diana Wightman

The job: The Vice President serves in the absence of the President, plans the monthly programs for the general meetings, assists in public relations efforts, and recruits race directors for ARC events.

The person: Diana grew up in Houston spending most of her time in the pool, active in swim team. She traveled to Austin to attend the University of Texas where she completed her Bachelors degree and was lucky enough to stick around after graduation. While at the University, she fell in love with Austin’s active lifestyle, especially running. She completed her first marathon during her sophomore year and has yet to stop. Some of the races under her belt include Chicago, Berlin and Boston Marathon. She also enjoys incorporating her swimming background by participating in triathlons. She works for Conley Sports, Inc., a running event management & consulting team. The group manages the AT&T Austin Marathon as well as other events in Texas. She loves her job, especially race day. You will find her on the trail with her dog, Pyk, a grey weimaraner – say hi

Secretary

Secretary
Caroline McDonnell

The job: The Secretary is responsible for keeping records and minutes of all meetings, makes announcements of upcoming meetings and activities, and maintains internal and external correspondence.

The person: Caroline is a relative newcomer to running. She first started running while in her early twenties but soon set it aside. She got back into running in 2002 when she got bored with gym workouts. She ran her first race that year. Since then, she has run three marathons and is preparing for her fourth. Caroline has always enjoyed living in Austin and has come to appreciate it more through running. She likes the conditioning she gets from running Austin's many rolling hills and she loves rediscovering Austin's beauty during long training runs.

Treasurer

Treasurer
Director of Information Services
Russell Secker

The job: The Treasurer is responsible for keeping all monies of the ARC, records of income and expenses, collection of income and payment of receipted expenses. The Treasurer helps prepare and administer the annual budget, and makes periodic reports of the club’s financial status.

The job: The Director of Information Services is responsible for the maintenance of the membership database, the design of the Club Website, and other club promotional information in either printed or electronic form.

The person: Russell grew up in England, and has lived in Austin since 2001. He has run many of the big city marathons - London, Paris, New York, Chicago, Boston, Dublin – but Austin will always be his favorite 26.2. He finished 6th in the 2003 Tahoe Triple (3 marathons in 3 days around Lake Tahoe). In 2005, he completed the Transe Gaule (coast–to–coast across France in 18 40–mile stages) in 137 hours, and in 2007 is planning to run across Germany. Since 2004, Russell has served on the ARC Board as Secretary and then President, and in 2005 was the Decker Challenge race director. Russell also coaches for Rogue Training Systems, along with his wife Claire, another former Board member.

Membership Services

Director of Member Services
David Mitchell

The job: The Director of Member Services is responsible for development of member benefits, recruitment of new members and development of regular club or group runs.

The person: David ran, cycled and generally burned off excess energy since he was a kid. He played team soccer from age 9 into high school, and rode a bicycle (no car) in college. It wasn't until his friend moved to town and showed off by "easily" doing the 3M Half Marathon, that he took up distance running. Now, after 4 seasons of Austin Fit, including 2 as a coach/trail leader, and 6 marathons, he's trying something extra, with triathlon training. Biking and swimming are a ton of fun, but Dave's got the serious runner's itch: gotta run a minimum amount of miles a week, or get silly.
Started volunteering at races to do something with his self – did it enough that he got recruited as a Board Member, which he really enjoys. Volunteering is a blast.

David has run in 3 countries and 6 states, and still thinks Austin's Town Lake trail is the best running trail anywhere. He is looking forward to doing an increasingly better job as a Board Member, streamlining the membership process.

Membership Services

Director of Volunteer Services
Angelica Kelley

The job: The Director of Volunteer Services is responsible for recruitment of volunteers for club events, coordination of club social activities.

The person: Angelica first started running when she was 15. Initially, it was just to tag along with her big sister, who had started running over the summer. But it quickly became an irresistible life long hobby, especially after discovering the beautiful trails of Town Lake. Daydreaming on the trail was almost immediate. Then one day at work, she was asked to fill in for an injured co-worker on a relay team. That experience uncovered the fun, social aspect of running. At first it appeared that the race crowd was a bit more serious than her daydream-while-you-run mentality. But she soon realized how friendly and easy going everyone was at the race and in the Austin running community in general, regardless of level. It was very inviting! Today, after many races, she is training for her sixth marathon. She really enjoys the challenge of the marathons, but favors the half marathon. She has been a member of ARC since 2001, has co-led club runs and volunteered in various events. Her favorite part about being an ARC member is meeting all the great people along the way.

HH Coord

Happy Hour Coordinator
Kyle Howard

The job: The Happy Hour Coordinator is responsible for arranging the monthly ARC Happy Hours.

The person: Kyle is glad to be the new Happy Hour coordinator for the ARC. It's a fun way to make a small contribution to the club and meet new friends. Plus, the beer is good at North By Northwest. Kyle has been running and racing for many years here in Austin. He likes Austin because of it's great fitness community and it's fairly easy to be a vegan here. He hasn't raced much in the last few years. After setting some pr goals in the 10K and marathon and running Boston, he lost the bug for racing. However, Kyle has been getting back into shape and intends to start training for another marathon soon..
