Austin Runners Club Board Members
President
Megan Baker
The job: The President leads, manages, motivates and supports the Board of Directors and the ARC, represents the ARC to the general public, establishes annual goals and policies and procedures, and presides at all meetings.
The person: Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Megan has been running since the 4th grade. She ran the 50 and 100 meter in an elementary school track meet and placed first in both. From that moment on, she has been hooked on running.
After moving to Austin in 2001, Megan decided to fulfill a lifelong goal of completing a marathon. After finishing her first, she knew she could improve and now has 8 marathons under her belt including the Disney, Boston, Chicago, NYC, Pittsburgh, and (of course) Austin. Megan is running the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco in October 2010, and will then take on her 10th marathon at home in Austin in February 2011. Megan plans on continuing running marathons for as long as her body allows her to, but has also started dabbling in triathlons with the idea that maybe someday she will complete an Ironman triathlon.
Megan started volunteering for ARC with the hope of meeting fellow runners, marathon addicts, and crazy people like herself. She considers this mission accomplished. If you wish to find her, check the trails on Town Lake. She's the one with the incredibly handsome running buddy, Rudy 'Sause' Baker.

Secretary, Happy Hour Coordinator
Chrissy Blaicher
The job: The Secretary is responsible for keeping records and minutes of all meetings, makes announcements of upcoming meetings and activities, and maintains internal and external correspondence.
The person: Chrissy has lived in Austin for the majority of her life. Her family relocated to the Austin area from New Jersey when she was 7 years old. As a result, she affectionately refers to herself as a born again Texan. After completing her undergraduate degree in 2007, Chrissy decided that she needed a new goal. She started running in January of 2008 with hopes of completing her first half marathon, The White Rock in Dallas, TX in December of the same year. Before the year was over she was hooked, having since completed numerous 5K's, 10K's and half marathons. The 10K is her favorite event with half marathons being a close second. She plans on completing her first marathon early next year.

Treasurer
Jeff Burrus
The job: The Treasurer is responsible for keeping all monies of the ARC, records of income and expenses, collection of income and payment of receipted expenses. The Treasurer helps prepare and administer the annual budget, and makes periodic reports of the club's financial status.
The person: Jeff moved to Austin in 1999 and started running shortly thereafter. After training for and running the Austin Marathon solo in 2000 (just to check it off the life list)...he stumbled across a running group, Al’s Ship of Fools (not yet named), and hasn’t stopped since. He initially got involved with ARC by running Decker and then by volunteering for Decker while volunteering as treasurer for The Trail Foundation. When not out running the trails and streets of Austin, he can usually be found spending time with his wife, Kelley, and their son, Bailey.

Director of Member Services
Chris Martin
The job: The Director of Member Services is responsible for development of member benefits, recruitment of new members and development of regular club or group runs.
The person: Chris was born and raised in Austin, TX. He began his active lifestyle as a cyclist, as soon as he could walk. Chris competed in his first triathlons in 2006, and was hooked, prompting him to run more often. In 2008 Chris joined ARC and began training with Team Zen. Along the way, discovering that running is actually fun and not just an end to a tri! Chris’ favorite ARC event is happy hour (whether official or not). The most rewarding aspect of ARC has been the people he has met. Chris has competed in a “mess of” 5K’s and 10k’s as well as two half marathons and six triathlons. Chris is currently training for the ARC Sprint Series and the Texas Tri Series where he will compete in his first Half Iron. His favorite distance is the Sprint Triathlon but that may change after the Half. He also plans to one day give a marathon a shot.

Director of Volunteer Services
Vance Taylor
The job: The Director of Volunteer Services is responsible for recruitment of volunteers for club events, coordination of club social activities.
The person: Vance Taylor has lived in the Austin area for about seven years. He grew up in Southern California and moved around during his professional life, including twelve years in Houston. Vance took up running later in life than most, starting running in 2007 at age 59. He ran his first half marathon at age 60, his first marathon at 61. Having now completed seven marathons, including Boston and New York, he is hooked.
Vance can be found most Saturday mornings running around Town Lake with Al’s Ship Of Fools. When not running, Vance could be found kayaking on Lake Travis or hiking in the southwest. Asked why he has gotten involved with ARC … ” You have to support those that support your running. You get more out of the experience and you can get a chance to continue to expand the great running scene in Austin.”

Director of Information Services
Jim Greene
The job: The Director of Information Services is responsible for maintaining the information distributed to the ARC community. They will work closely with the newsletter editor and secretary as well as answer questions and receive feedback from the ARC community.
The person: Jim took up running when his once-reliable pool of racquetball partners dried up, and he needed something to keep fit. He did pure recreational running in the neighborhood, and entered a Thanksgiving Day 5 Mile race with the encouragement of a friend that was training for the Houston Marathon. He then paced that friend for the last 5 miles of the marathon and decided he had to try one himself. He's since completed three, and enjoys racing a lot more.
Jim came to Austin in 2004 and really got hooked on running in this great city. He joined ARC after experiencing his first Decker and has since participated in several Distance Challenges, trail races and other running adventures. He has enjoyed participating in several of the ARC race support volunteer efforts and had been a staple at the Wednesday night North group run. Jim will admit that he joined ARC for the race and gear discounts (which are cool), but that the people and spirit of the ARC are what keeps him an active member.

Newsletter Editor
Thadra Vrubel
The job: The newsletter editor is responsible for the printed form of the ARC newsletter, currently included in the Inside Texas Running magazine.
The person: Thadra began running with friends as a way to manage the stress while attending graduate school in Denver, Colorado. Running also provides her a great avenue to explore the beauty of the community. She moved to Austin in 2002 and continued running along Lady Bird Lake. Being involved with Team Zen and Sweaty She has allowed her ample opportunity to meet and work out alongside other active minded individuals. Her first race was a 10k, which continues to be her favorite distance, with a long term goal of competing in a triathlon. Thadra biggest challenge in training is the changing schedule and frequent long hours.
